Nurse Loses Eyesight in One Eye Following Secondary Lens Implant
A nurse with juvenile cataracts underwent a secondary lens implant to improve vision in one of
her eyes. Following the surgery, she developed significant eye pressure which the
ophthalmologist did not treat. It was claimed that the ophthalmologist ran an "assembly line"
process for this patients. The nurse sustained a detached retina from the elevated eye pressure
and lost eyesight in the eye. The jury returned a verdict against the ophthalmologist for
$853,000.
