8-Year-Old Accidentally Struck by Pizza Delivery Driver
KCTV5 reports that a neighborhood party was interrupted when an eight year-old girl was accidentally struck by a pizza delivery vehicle. The child was in serious condition at last report. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and child affected by this accident. Accidents such as this are extremely stressful and emotional times for parents, children, and extended family members as they seek the best possible care for their child. Unfortunately, such accidents can result in significant injuries that require long-term care.
We recently assisted parents who experienced a similar situation with their own child, who rolled down a hill while playing and into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The child suffered traumatic brain and spinal injuries, and spent over a month in the hospital. The child continues to have physical limitations and requires ongoing physical therapy and medical treatment.
Fortunately, we were able to obtain a settlement that will help with the child's future medical needs. A special needs trust will be set up to maintain funds on behalf of the child and to specifically provide for special equipment, home renovation, and services to help care for the child on an ongoing basis.
In traumatic events such as this, we at Dougherty & Holloway are available to negotiate with the insurance company to maximize recovery and obtain the greatest possible benefit for the child’s future needs. We are also able to seek court approval for the settlement, and assist with creating a trust fund for the settlement proceeds. If necessary, we will take the claim to trial in order to achieve the best outcome.
During such a traumatic time, our attorneys watch out for the family's best interests so that the parents are able to focus on their child's medical care.
At Dougherty & Holloway, we help clients put their lives back together. If you or someone you know has experienced a tragic accident and require assistance, please give us a call.
